The Family: Playoffs ‘08

Despite an amazing game by Kobe, Deron Williams’ 29 points and 14 assists powered Utah to a 123-115 overtime win.

After blowing a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter, Utah faced a 3-1 deficit and an upcoming game on the road in Los Angeles. But with the game on the line, Deron Williams put together one his best games of the year with 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead Utah to a 123-115 overtime win and tie the series at 2-2. Deron got plenty of help, including 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds from Carlos Boozer.

Deron knew he had to set the tempo for Utah right from the tipoff.

“I thought we started out great pushing the ball and getting out in transition to build a little lead. That is what got us going,” said Deron. “When I see guys struggling offensively, that is when I try to get everyone involved. If we are struggling a little to score I try to assert myself in the game.”

Los Angeles, led by amazing performances from Kobe and Lamar Odom, staged a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter, but fell short in overtime. Reigning MVP Kobe, fighting off a back injury, scored 33 points and dished out 10 assists in the loss, while Lamar Odom had a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds.

In the other Western Conference semis, San Antonio downed New Orleans to tie the series 2-2. Tony Parker continued his strong playoff play with 21 points and 8 assists that led his team to a 100-80 win. San Antonio will now head back to New Orleans for Game 5 and try to reclaim the home-court advantage.
