Despite a great game by Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Cleveland fell to Boston in the first game of the Eastern Conference semis.
In a tough defensive game, Zydranus Ilgauskas’ team-high 22 points and 12 rebounds were almost enough to give Cleveland the win, but in the end, they fell to Boston 76-72. It was always going to be tough to win Game 1 on the road, but Cleveland was there until the very end.
Ilgauskas’ tip-in with 1:30 left in the game gave Cleveland a 70-68, and had another tip-in to tie the game at 72, but Cleveland never scored again.
“We were right there, up two points. That’s where you want to be at on the road with a minute left. They just made a couple more shots than we did at the end,” said Ilgauskas. “We know we are going to play better next game.”
Though LeBron didn’t play to his usual awe-inspiring playoff standards, Cleveland can take comfort knowing they can more than compete with Boston on the road, they can win. Game 2 is Thursday, May 8th.
