KD Wins ROY!

To no one’s surprise, Kevin Durant was named the 2007-08 Rookie of the Year.

k_durant1.jpgAfter winning the Rookie of the Month award five times this season, it was no surprise on May 1st when Kevin Durant was named the 2007-08 Rookie of the Year. It’s the first time in Seattle franchise history that one of their rookies earned the prize.

As the season progressed, KD continued to add new moves to his arsenal and capped off his amazing rookie year with a career-high 42 points against Golden State on April 16th. Despite facing constant double-teams, KD led Seattle with 20.3 points a game, and was the only rookie to lead his team in five statistical categories: points, blocks, steals, free-throws made and free-throw percentage.

Putting up stellar numbers this season Durant scored at least 20 points 47 times and at least 30 points seven times. But no matter how easy he made it look on the court at times, KD’s stellar season was the result of hard work. Plain and simple.

“I’ve worked hard my whole life. Now it’s starting to pay off, but I know this is the beginning of things to come – first of all, hopefully bigger and better things for the team and then myself if I continue to work,” said KD.
