Nash goes ‘green’ with his new shoe and gets bionic for the small screen.
Steve Nash is not really known for being a loud mouth on the court. He’s always let his game do the talking. With a work ethic that is unmatched by most professional athletes and a dedication to improvement that is borderline obsessive, Nash appears to be more of a cool, calm and collected basketball machine than a man at all.
But don’t get it confused. His silence on the court doesn’t mean he doesn’t have anything to say. In fact, Nash often has more to say off the court than he does on, and takes every opportunity to make statements about hard work and saving the environment whenever possible.
To bring his environmental passions to the game Nash teamed up with Nike to create the new Zoom BB II Low Trash Talk. The upper is made of recycled scrap leathers and synthetics which have been cut into individual pieces and cross-stitched together. Foam scraps were ground to create the midsole and the outsole is formed from reground rubber.
He debuted this new shoe to the world in New Orleans during the big weekend at the 3-point shootout. And though he didn’t bring home the trophy he did win on style points.
So to introduce his latest creation he decided to take a more cinematic approach. Working with his own production company, Meathawk, directors Danny Vaia and Ezra Holland, director of photography Max Malkin (director of “Step Up 2: The Streets”) and special effects legend Stan Winston, Steve created “60 Million Dollar Man,” a short film for the Earth Day release of the Trash Talk. Also starring Amare Stoudemire and Raja Bell, Steve gives a nod to the 70s classic action show the “Six Million Dollar Man”, becoming the world’s first Recycled Man. With a shoe that is better. Stronger. Faster.
The Nike Zoom BB II Low Trash Talk is available in the Phoenix Suns home and away colorways at House of Hoops in Harlem.
