Amare Stoudemire wins his fourth award on his way to New Orleans.
When Phoenix has needed it most this season, Amare Stoudemire has come through, and the league rewarded Amare’s efforts with the Western Conference Player of the Week award on Feb. 11, 2008.
With recent changes made in the Phoenix roster, more of the pressure is falling upon his broad shoulders, but he has responded by taking his game to another level. For the week of Feb. 4th-11th, just before he hit the hardwood in new Orleans, he averaged 28.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.25 blocks per game.
The highlight of the week was his 33-point outburst against Seattle on Feb. 8th where he also collected 10 rebounds in the 103-99 win. He also had 31 points and two late game-clinching free throws against Washington Feb. 10th. Amare, the league’s 7th leading scorer, is now the team leader in points, rebounds, blocks and field-goal percentage.
It’s the fourth time Amare has won the award, and the first time for a Suns player this season.
