Durant is named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for second time.
Kevin Durant wrapped up a fantastic 2007 by being named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for December. It was his second consecutive Rookie of the Month award. Against Milwaukee on Dec. 7th, Durant matched his career high of 35 points, and also posted 30 points, five rebounds and four assists in a win over the Knicks on Dec. 12th. He also put up 23 solid points in a tough battle in the northwest against Portland Christmas day.
And he continues his campaign for Rookie of the Year this month with a 24 point showing against his rival and close friend LeBron James during their Tuesday night game in Cleveland.
“He’s been like a big brother to me,” the 19-year-old Durant said. “I’m very fortunate to have a relationship with probably the best player in the world, and I’m going to take advantage of it.”
Because of an unfortunate 4th quarter ankle sprain that sent him to the locker room he was unable to prevent the Sonics from falling to James and the red hot Cavaliers.
Among rookies, Durant is the leader in scoring, assists and free throw percentage and second in field goal percentage. Averaging almost 20 points per game, Durant is playing beyond his years and is setting a standard for the rookie class of 2007.
