Barkley Force

The celebration continues as Nike launches a twelve-team, four-week hoops tournament with an elaborate opening ceremony.

Under the watchful eyes of a larger-than-life Charles Barkley mural, Nike kicked off a hoops tournament at The Point in grandiose form. The ‘opening ceremony’ was part of an ongoing celebration commemorating the new Barkley AF and its impact on the basketball world.

A full collegiate marching band provided the inspirational soundtrack as an international gathering of players hyped the crowd. A 3-point contest warmed the fans up for the slam dunk competition.

Windmill dunks. Three hundred and sixty degree spins. Jordan-esque leaps from the free-throw line. The crowd went nuts. The Point buzzed with anticipation of the upcoming competition.

The tournament will also pay homage to the 1992 Olympic Dream Team which featured some of the greatest players in the history of the game – including Charles Barkley.

In this spirit, players from the Latin American and Asian American Basketball Leagues, Nike open runs, and local sporting goods stores will assemble dream teams of their own. Players will fall into one of three divisions: Sports Culture. Community. Ballers. Each division will host four teams and will compete for a secret grand prize at the finals on December 15.

Expect fierce competition from premiere LA ballers – all under the gaze of Sir Charles himself. Monday and Wednesday evenings will never be the same, so get down to The Point at 8pm sharp and see for yourself.
