A local boot camp prepares ballers for college and beyond—and gets results.
“California is probably the hottest market in basketball right now, and it’s all about transition ball,” explains Dartgnan Stamps.
He should know. He’s been balling out of Manchester Park and all over Los Angeles since he was a kid. He founded the Top Prospects Hoops School fifteen years ago and has been developing LA ballers ever since. He’s trained some of LA’s best to play high school, college, and professional hoops.
Initially coaching travel teams through the American Roundball Corporation, Dartgnan noticed a lack of development programs for inner-city kids. He went on to form Top Prospects to fill this void.
“We started it for kids who wanted to play in college. We focus on developing these kids fundamentally and getting them ready to compete on an international level. Most of my players come from the inner-city—South Central, Inglewood, Venice.”
At Top Prospects, kids can expect a heavy dose of the fundamentals as well as a barrage of agility, speed, quickness, and shooting drills. And his track record speaks for itself. According to Stamps, 90% of his four-year veterans go on to play D1 college ball. His ‘graduates’ have played all over the world. Germany. Israel. The Ukraine.
And, of course, the Big Time here in the States. In fact, Top Prospects alumni comprise a “who’s who” of some of the best hoopers ever to take their game from the blacktops of SoCal to the pros.
With names like New Jersey’s Tayshaun Prince (Compton) and Jason Collins (Northridge), Utah’s Jaron Collins (Northridge), Miami’s Dorell Wright (Los Angeles), and Orlando’s Trevor Ariza (Westchester), it’s hard to question TP’s intensive training approach.
Their dedication to filling college and professional rosters with homegrown talent keeps LA basketball above the rim worldwide.
