Lauren Jackson Wins MVP For A Second Time

Seattle’s Australian import brings home the hardware.

To no one’s surprise, Lauren Jackson was named the 2007 MVP. It was the fifth award for Jackson in 2007, as she has also been named 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, WNBA Peak Performer (leader in points and rebounds), first-team selection to the All-Defensive team and the All-WNBA team.

Lauren Jackson dominated the game in 2007 on both ends like few ever have. Her league-leading 23.8 points per game was the best of career, and was the third time she lead the WNBA in scoring. Jackson’s league best 9.7 rebounds per game was also the highest of her career.

One week in July saw Lauren Jackson cement her place in WNBA history. On July 24 she tied the WNBA record for most points in a game with 47 points, and later in the week became the youngest and fastest player in WNBA history to score 4,000 points.

Jackson also set a WNBA record with nine-straight games of scoring more than 30 points per game and was named Western Conference player of the week five times during the 2007 season.

The 2007 MVP award is a well-deserved end to the Australian’s 2007 season.

Finishing second to Jackson in the voting was San Antonio’s Becky Hammon. Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi, Indiana’s Tamika Catchings and Detroit’s Deanna Nolan had the next three highest vote totals.
