Detroit stays alive against New York and Phoenix moves on.
Nike ballers are leading the way in the postseason. Here is the latest scoop from the weekend.
Phoenix 95, Seattle 89
All-Stars Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter brought the offense as expected and led Phoenix to a 2-0 sweep of Seattle. The sweep means Phoenix will face either Sacramento or San Antonio in the Western Conference finals.
On Friday night, behind a team-high 22 points from Taurasi and 21 points from Pondexter, Phoenix broke the century mark in a 101-84 win on the road to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Seattle’s Betty Lennox had a game-high 23 points in the loss. On Sunday night at home, Phoenix got off to another great start behind Cappie Pondexter’s game-high 25 points. But Seattle rallied back from 22 points down in the second half. Lauren Jackson’s 22 points and 14 rebounds drove the comeback, but in the end it wasn’t enough, as Diana Taurasi’s 3-pointer with almost 3 minutes left gave Phoenix a lead they would never relinquish. Taurasi finished with 20 points in the 95-89 win to sweep the series.
