WNBA Postseason 2007: Playoffs Start With A Bang

Nike ballers are grabbing the spotlight as postseason kicks off. Here are Thursday’s results.

SUN SHINES OVER INDIANA

katie_douglas1.jpgIn maybe the most exciting WNBA playoff game in history, Connecticut pulled out a 93-88 triple-overtime win over Indiana on Thursday night to take a 1-0 lead in the series. It was the first triple-overtime playoff game in WNBA history. Also making history was Connecticut’s star Katie Douglas who had a WNBA record eight steals in the game.

Despite being up by 17 points in the 3rd quarter, Indiana, behind Tamika Catchings game-high 20 rebounds, came back to force overtime. In the end though, Connecticut’s balanced offensive attack prevailed. Nykesha Sales had a team-high 25 points, while Asjha Jones and Lindsay Whalen scored 20 and 13 points respectively.

POWELL POWERS SACRAMENTO

Nicole Powell was just too much down low for San Antonio to handle in Sacramento’s 86-65 win on Thursday night. Powell had a game-high 22 points and 8 rebounds to give Sacramento the 1-0 lead in the series. And when Powell wasn’t dominating down low, Kara Lawson was hitting from beyond the 3-pt line. Lawson finished with three 3-pointers and 16 points overall.

Sophia Young and Becky Hammon did their best to keep San Antonio in the game. Young had 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Hammon scored 16 points.
