Mike Campbell is one of the most respected players on every level of the NYC basketball circuit. We caught up with the man they call “Mr. Smooth.”

He played collegiate ball in Brooklyn and has twice proven himself in the fierce Nike Battlegrounds competition, earning the crown as the best in NYC. Campbell, also known as Mr. Smooth, is currently leading the newcomer team the X-Men in the Nike Pro City tournament.

“My game is…well, I call my game ‘do it all.’ My game is all-around, nothing too flashy. Every now and then I can get an ooohhh and aaahhh. I have a jump shot, mid-range game…I get buckets. Every now and then I will dunk on someone, but I just do what needs to be done.”

On playing in the NYC summer tournaments
“That’s just my staying true to what I do. I grew up in these summer leagues and they show me love, and now I’m giving back and I’m showing the tournaments love.”
