BECKY HAMMON SETS THE BAR

becky_hammon.jpgSan Antonio’s Becky Hammon stays on point, winning player of the week honors for the second time this season. Averaging 19 points and five assists per game, she led San Antonio to a 3-0 record this week, moving her team just a half game away from leading the West.

After playing eight seasons with New York, this marks Hammon’s first year with San Antonio, making their win in New York last Friday even sweeter. Hammon led her team to a triumphant 70-63 victory, posting 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. The next day, she had another incredible game with 20 points, five assists and three rebounds, taking the win from Connecticut.

Their third win of the week was against Minnesota, as Hammon posted 18 points and Sophia Young scored a career high of 24 points to secure the 80-73 victory. Stay tuned for a San Antonio-Minnesota rematch this Friday at 8 pm ET.

SMITH SHOWS THEM HOW IT’S DONE

Detroit’s Katie Smith was also named player of the week, averaging 18.5 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds as Detroit posted a strong 3-1 record in four away games this week. Continuing on what seems like an inevitable path to the playoffs, Smith put up 18 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in a 79-73 victory over Los Angeles last Monday. She then tallied a game-high 23 points, four assists and four rebounds to lock up the win against Seattle. Deanna Nolan also put up strong numbers, with 18 points, five assists and two rebounds.
